(Sorry. Wrong number.)

Mayor mistakenly hands out sex number

EDMOND, Okla. - The mayor personally distributed thousands of fliers discouraging underage drinking only to find they mistakenly contained the phone number for a sex talk line.

Edmond Mayor Saundra Naifeh and more than five dozen volunteers went door-to-door Saturday to deliver 22,000 fliers. The city attorney notified Naifeh Saturday night after the police department learned of the mistake.

"Obviously, it made me feel sick," Naifeh said. "I had a blister on one foot (from going door-to-door) when the city attorney told me the number was wrong. I have no idea how the error happened."

Callers dialing the number were promised "exciting live talk" if they called a second number offering provocative telephone conversations or text messages costing 99 cents to $2.99 a minute.

City Manager Larry Stevens called the wrong listing an inadvertent error that occurred when the card was designed by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

Naifeh said writing a story identifying the nature of the wrong telephone number was sensationalism and tabloid news.

"It will change the focus of what we were doing," she said. "It is not part of the story."

Naifeh had chosen the campaign to fight underage drinking as Edmond's contribution to Make A Difference Day, a national day set aside to help neighbors and the community.

Samhainophobia: fear of Halloween

Random Fact of The Day

Halloween is also called Pooky Night in some parts of Ireland, presumably named after the pĂșca, a mischievous spirit.

Funny Stuff From Dave Barry

"All you have to do to see the accuracy of my thesis is look around you. Look, in particular, at the people who, like you, are making average incomes for doing average jobs - bank vice presidents, insurance salesmen, auditors, secretaries of defense - and you'll realize they all dress the same way, essentially the way the mannequins in the Sears menswear department dress. Now look at the real successes, the people who make a lot more money than you - Elton John, Captain Kangaroo, anybody from Saudi Arabia, Big Bird, and so on. They all dress funny - and they all succeed. Are you catching on?"

"New" holiday called Halloween

TOKYO (Reuters) - Ghosties and ghoulies, princesses and pumpkins took to the streets of Tokyo this weekend as Japan celebrated one of its newest festivals -- Halloween.

Little known two decades ago, Halloween has spread in cities such as Tokyo, where autumn now sees florists selling pumpkins, shopping arcades festooned with paper Jack o'lanterns -- and even black-and-orange costumes for dogs on offer at pet shops.

Halloween, as Japan now knows it, is unabashedly American, and few Japanese know much about its origins.

"It's a time to dress up and have fun," said Yukiko Kobayashi, 34, whose 4-year-old daughter Kao wore a princess costume while watching a Halloween parade at Tokyo Disneyland.

Shunsuke Fujita, a 7-year-old dressed as a ghost at a Sunday Halloween parade, said: "It's a festival for ghosts, and it's fun because we get candy."

The festival's roots in All Hallow's Eve -- the day before All Saint's day, which commemorates the death of Christian martyrs -- resemble a traditional Japanese Buddhist holiday known as Obon.

But the three days in August when Japanese spirits are believed to return to earth are a mostly solemn time when families visit cemeteries to honor their ancestors.

"Halloween, like Christmas here, has no connection to religion," said Takayo Yamamoto at Hakuhodo Inc. Institute of Life and Living.

"It's all promotion for toyshops, florists and candy stores."

Most people trace the start of Halloween in Japan to Tokyo Disneyland, which opened in 1983. The same year, a Tokyo toy store sponsored the first "Harajuku Pumpkin Parade," now an annual event in a Tokyo shopping area popular with youth.

Merchandisers have seized on Halloween as a welcome oasis in a long dry stretch from the summer holidays to Christmas.

"After all, in October there's nothing else to catch anybody's attention," said Masako Asaji, who has filled her restaurant's window with tiny Jack o'lanterns.

Some shops put up Halloween decorations in early September.

"When we first started with Halloween, we only had a one-day event, since people didn't really get the idea," said Hiroshi Suzuki of Oriental Land Co. Ltd, which runs Disneyland.

This year, though, Tokyo Disneyland began its daily Halloween parade on September 12, three days before Disney World in Florida.

"It's a good way to bring in customers," Suzuki said.

Thousands packed the park one recent weekday to scream and shout as skeletons and Disney characters dressed in Halloween costumes cavorted. Vendors sold treats with a Japanese twist: sweets made from pumpkin and sweet red bean paste.

The number of Japanese marking Halloween is still tiny and few engage in the American custom of "trick-or-treating" -- going door to door to collect sweets.

But awareness of the holiday is growing. A recent survey showed some three-fourths of Japanese had heard of the holiday.

For Japanese youth, some of whom already engage in the hobby of "cosplay," dressing up as characters from "manga" comics or "anime" cartoons, Halloween is another chance for fantasy fun.

"Halloween is a time when you can do whatever you want," said Rie Kakuda, 20-year-old florist dressed as a princess in an ankle-length dress with ruffles at Disneyland. "You're free."

Random rantings of a sick mind

'Tis the season to get sick. (cough cough) I was sick all weekend. I did nothing but lounge around my apartment in my pjs over the weekend. And I came home from work early today and canceled my physical therapy appointment cuz I felt like total crapola. I still feel icky, but the Benadryl did help stop the sneezes. I took a nap from like 3 to 6 today, and I will probably go to bed early tonight. Blah. I hate being sick!

I only have like 2 physical therapy sessions left, and frankly, I am glad. The therapist's office is out on Stockdale Highway and it takes me nearly a half an hour to drive out there since the traffic is always crappy out that way. And it hasn't done much good, to be honest. I am still having the same pain issues that I had before I started. But the therapist said that he can only treat the symptoms and not the cause. He did say it felt like there was fluid in my knee....and I know what that means. Ugh. I hate the idea of having needles in it to drain it, but if it needs to be done, then there is nothing I can do about it.

I only have a few more days in the training classroom and then I go back to my old desk....my home sweet other home-away-from-home. I am taking 2 trainees with me to the training unit so I can inflict more pain upon them as they continue to train with me - hehe. Just kidding. I am not THAT mean. I will be glad to be back at my desk and away from Powerpoint presentations - blah. Those put me to sleep!

On a totally unrelated point, I was watching Jason Vs Freddy the other day on tv (yeah - there was nothing else on) and there was a part where Freddy uses water to scare Jason, since he is supposedly afraid of water and won't go near it. Yet, in Friday the 13th The Final Chapter (yeah, that title is misleading), Jason kills not one, but two people in the lake. And he was in the water. IN it. Yet he won't go near water in Jason Vs Freddy. Exactly when did Jason develop hydrophobia?? In part 5...part 6??

I know, I know. I think too much.

Driving test comes to crashing halt

PORTAGE, Ind. - A young woman's goal of getting her driver's license crashed this week — right into the license branch. The 20-year-old woman was pulling into a parking spot outside the license branch when she hit the accelerator instead of the brake, Assistant Fire Chief Mike Bucy said.

The car jumped a small curb and went into the building about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, tearing out a large glass window and damaging a door and low brick wall.

Neither the driver nor the examiner, who weren't identified, were injured. Bucy said a person in the building sustained a hip injury and was examined by emergency medical personnel but declined to be taken to the hospital.

The driver's car had damage to its hood and fenders.

Amazing Travel manager Susan Williams said she thought something had exploded next door.

"We jumped up and we went to the door and saw the car half in and half out of the license bureau," Williams said.

The building was closed for the remainder of the day, but reopened Wednesday.

The young driver, meanwhile, failed the test.

"I think it's fair to say the customer did not meet the required criteria," said Greg Cook, a Bureau of Motor Vehicles spokesman.

Funny Stuff From Dave Barry

"Lobster: Everyone loves these delectable crustaceans, but many cooks are squeamish about placing them into boiling water alive, which is the only proper method of preparing them. Frankly, the easiest way to eliminate your guilt is to establish theirs by putting them on trial before they're cooked. The fact is, lobsters are among the most ferocious predators on the sea floor, and you're helping reduce crime in the reefs. Grasp the lobster behind the head, look it right in its unmistakably guilty eyestalks and say, 'Where were you on the night of the 21st?', then flourish a picture of a scallop or a sole and shout, 'Perhaps this will refresh that crude neural apparatus you call a memory!' The lobster will squirm noticeably. It may even take a swipe at you with one of its claws. Incorrigible. Pop it into the pot. Justice has been served, and shortly you and your friends will be, too."

Montana principal returns after 'wedgie'

LIVINGSTON, Mont. - The principal of Park High School returned to school Tuesday after a six-day suspension for giving a student a "wedgie." The Livingston School District Board held a special meeting Monday and approved Superintendent Hannibal Anderson's recommendation that Principal Eric Messerli be allowed to return to work.

"It has been clearly recognized and stated that the behavior is inappropriate, unprofessional and unacceptable," Anderson said.

Messerli's behavior "warrants substantial disciplinary action" but was not sufficient grounds for a recommendation for termination, he said.

Messerli was suspended for two days without pay and four days with pay for grabbing a Park High senior's soccer jersey and pulling it over his head and giving the student a "wedgie" by pulling up on the waist band of his underwear. The incident happened on Oct. 5 at a junior varsity soccer game.

Messerli cried Monday as he read a statement to the board and the public.

"I've made mistakes in my life, but none have had the impact that this one has had," he said.

He said his first reaction was to resign, but he wanted to "tackle this mess" head on.

"I want to live in a world where we don't have to hide when we screw up," he said.

Public comments about Messerli, voiced by students, parents and community members, ranged from reprimand to encouragement.

"What could be better than showing how you bounce back after a mistake?" community member Brad Snow said.

"The days of a school staff person laying hands on a student are long gone," said a woman in the audience.

Park High Vice Principal Bob Stevenson and girls' soccer coach Nate Anderson, who both witnessed the Oct. 5 incident, expressed support for Messerli. They said his actions were a mistake, but they were done in an effort to joke around with the student.

"It was meant in playfulness," Anderson said.

Others, including trustee Greg Brainerd, said Messerli's trying to be on equal level with students was the problem.

He attributed the incident to "loss of traditional authority structure," which he believes should be re-established in the school system.

Anderson said Messerli also received a letter of reprimand.

Things that make you go, Boo!

Yes. It is that time of year again. Time for me to change my Myspace page to reflect the Halloween spirit. Ok. So I was really bored and had nothing better to do. Also, I made some cute little Halloween pumpkins and critters and wanted to put them on my page. Gotta love Paint Shop Pro! I didn't redo my blog this time. I probably will for Christmas. It is just too much work to redo the whole blog! lol.

Here is a little black kitty that you can grab if you wanna. Just right-click and click "save picture." Feel free to take it. I know some people are all copyright-happy or what-not, but I am not. I just like to make things for fun :)

Nothing new has been going on. The training class is almost over (next Thursday is the last day ) , so pretty soon I will be back at my old desk. I am glad cuz it is just so friggin' cold in that room in the morning, and then in the afternoon it is hot and stuffy.

I went to the dentist today for a cleaning, and for the first time in a long time I was actually not nervous or weirded out going there. You wanna know why? Sonicare! That is why. That toothbrush is SO worth the money. I knew my teeth were clean, damnit. I am seriously loving me some Sonicare. Every time I brush my teeth, they feel so fresh-from-the-dentist clean (did that sound like a commercial or what?) But really, it cleans your teeth great. For serial!

On a totally unrelated note, I heard that Kate Moss and her weirdo of a boyfriend, Pete Doherty (who is nearly as skinny as she is) are gonna have a baby together. Am I the only one grossed out by this? That baby is gonna be seriously hideous! They both have rat faces and drug habits. Such a lovely pair they make (gag). They make Britney Spears and Kevin Federline look normal (almost).

Oh well. You know what they say.....everyone is somebody's weirdo. At least those 2 weirdos found each other.

(Poor guy. All that, and still no Sponge Bob.)

Toddler gets stuck in vending machine

ANTIGO, Wis. - Three-year-old Robert Moore went fishing for a stuffed replica of Sponge Bob and ended up trapped in a vending machine. The toddler's adventure began with a Saturday evening shopping trip with his grandmother, Fredricka Bierdemann, and three siblings.

Bierdemann ended the trip by giving each child a dollar and telling them to have fun in a retailer's game room.

A stuffed Sponge Bob in a vending machine's bin caught Robert's eye. He tried without success to fish it out with a plastic crane.

"I told him I could get it for him," his grandmother said. "He's a character. He said, 'Oh no, I can get it.'"

When she turned her back to get another dollar for a second try, Robert took off his coat and squeezed through an opening in the machine. He landed in the stuffed animal cube.

"I turned around and looked for him, and he said, 'Oma, I'm in here," Bierdemann said. "I thought I would have a heart attack."

Store employees couldn't find a key to the machine, so Robert waited while the Antigo Fire Department was called.

"He was having a ball in there, hugging all the stuffed animals," Bierdemann said. "He was so good-natured, but I was shaking like a leaf."

Firefighters broke one lock but then spotted two latches inside the plastic cube. They passed a screwdriver to Robert.

"He stacked up all the stuffed animals and used that screwdriver to open the latch," his grandmother said. "You should have seen him go."

Eventually, Robert freed himself. But his mother, Marie Moore, and grandmother said they were lucky that he remained calm when another child might not have. He went home safe — but without a stuffed Sponge Bob.

Man with mannequin fetish arrested again

FERNDALE, Mich. - A Detroit man with a history of smashing store windows to grab female mannequins has been accused of indulging his fetish again. Ronald A. Dotson, 39, was arrested and jailed Oct. 9 after breaking a window at a cleaning-supply company to get at a mannequin in a black and white French maid's uniform, police said.

A judge Thursday ordered him to undergo a psychiatric examination to determine whether he is competent to stand trial on charges of attempted breaking and entering.

"Mr. Dotson went to prison and they haven't helped him," said his lawyer, Edward Cohn. "He got out of prison and he was right back out there. It's pretty bizarre."

Dotson had been out of prison for less than a week when he was caught. His erotic pursuit of mannequins over the past 13 years has led to at least six convictions for breaking and entering and a stint in prison, police said.

"He told his parole officer he was going to buy a mannequin so he didn't have to do these break-ins anymore," said Detective Brendan Moore said. "Apparently that didn't work out."

Payoffs and therapy and ebay scams, oh my!

Well, my car is finally paid off. I went down to the bank today and made my last payment, then went to the DMV to get the new registration and to request the pink slip, which will be mailed to me in a few weeks. It's a nice feeling to have that car paid off. And even better is the fact that my parents made the final payment for me....and even gassed up my car for me. I tell you, I have the awesomest parents in the world. (and I know awesomest is not a word, but it is in my blog - hehe).

Physical therapy went ok today, but to be honest, it hasn't made a real change yet. I keep holding on to that "yet" though. It has only been a week. The therapist taped up my knee today to provide some stability to it, and I tell you, that made a HUGE difference. I was actually able to sit down without too much pain. But once the wrap was taken off, it was back to square one. Ugh. Oh well. The pain-free few hours I had made me a happier camper than I have been in the last few weeks.

I found out yesterday that I have a touch of the ole strep throat. Seems that nose culture thing they did to me at the dr's office came back positive for strep. My throat has been sore and my voice has been rather hoarse lately, but I had no idea it was strep. So now I am on antibiotics to get rid of the crap. I tell you, when it rains, it pours!

I also found out the other day that some people I know were the victims of an ebay scam that took them for over $100. Anyone who uses ebay should be aware of these scam artists who send out these "second chance offers" on items they bid on but lost. Be SURE that the email came from ebay. You can do that by looking in your "My Messages" in your ebay account. If the message really came from ebay, it will be in there. If not, beware. And NEVER send money thru Western Union. Chances are, it is a scam. These people go to great lengths to make themselves sound all official. And I know I am going on and on about it, but it pisses me off that they scammed these people. People that I know. Grrrrrr.

Why do people have to suck so much???

Thieves swipe statue of nude woman

ORLANDO, Fla. - Somehow, a thief or thieves was able to swipe a 50-pound bronze statue of a nude woman from an art gallery downtown in broad daylight.

The statue, titled "Crissy" and valued at $12,600, disappeared as visitors were perusing three private galleries at the CityArts Factory in downtown Orlando.

It was last seen at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, and may have been rolled on a trail of T-shirts and windbreakers workers came back to that lead out the door.

"I thought, is there a naked person in there?" said Cassy Turiczek, executive director of the Downtown Arts District, after seeing the clothes.

"Crissy" had been at CityArts Factory for a little more than two weeks on a 4-foot pedestal in the building's community gallery, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

It featured a woman with an arched back and a swirling mane of thick hair.

Painting the town red, sort of...

PATNA, India (Reuters Life!) - Authorities in eastern India are painting a crime-infested town pink in the hope that an image makeover will lift the sagging morale of residents who are fed up with the decline in law and order, officials said on Monday.

The ancient town of Aurangabad in Bihar -- one of India's most backward and poorest states -- is a hotbed of crime ranging from killing, extortion, kidnapping and inter-caste wars.

Officials say the idea of painting the city pink originated from the dominant Rajput community, who migrated from the western state of Rajasthan where the capital, Jaipur is known as the pink city of India.

"Only a few buildings (in Jaipur) bear the pink color. Aurangabad will actually be the country's real pink city," said Arvind Kumar Singh, a senior government official overseeing the work who is also a Rajput.

With the city's two million residents complaining about poor quality of life and depression due to crime, officials said they had decided to paint the city pink ahead of the Hindu festival of light, Diwali, on October 21.

Local residents said they welcomed the new lick of paint to the town. "The town does not seem to carry any of its past look and we feel happy about it," said Santosh Kumar, a local businessman.

Rush to marry ends in tragedy

KARACHI (Reuters) - A Pakistani man has committed suicide outside his fiancee's home after he thought he accidentally killed her while trying to persuade her to get married early, police said Saturday.

The man, Ahmed Ashraf, was shooting a gun in the air outside his fiancee's home in the southern city of Karachi on Friday as part of his efforts to persuade her to get married two months early when a stray bullet accidently hit her, police said.

"He was so eager to get married he stood in front of his fiancee's house and started firing shots in the air to catch her attention," said investigating officer Ghulam Hussain.

The young woman was coming downstairs when a bullet ricocheted off a wall and hit her. She fell down screaming "I have been shot," Hussain said.

"He thought he had killed her and within seconds shot himself. The girl is fine," Hussain said.

"It is a tragic accident. They were engaged to be married with their parents' consent on December 25. He was insisting they get married earlier."

Ashraf had told his fiancee, Naureen, he would do something drastic if she didn't agree to get married straight away. The woman insisted the marriage date had already been set and there was no need to hurry, Hussain said.

Pain sucks knees!

Holy moly. Monday is over...thank the lord. I came to work today totally unmotivated. Well, it is Monday. What is there to be motivated about?? It was quiz day for the trainees, and as usual, I had written the quiz last week. But then the instructor wanted a food stamp bonus question on the quiz, so I had to think one up in about twenty minutes. Well, it usually takes me that long just to wake up and get my brain working. But I managed to squeeze one out of my brain....it was an easy one, and the trainees were not sure if they were being tricked or not, as it seemed too easy. Am I THAT mean??? lol. Naw. They were just lucky that I have slow morning brain

I had my second physical therapy session for my aching knee today. It went ok. Basically, they put a heat pack and some weird electode thingies on my knee and let it sit for about twenty minutes. Then they do an ultrasound massage on it where they put some freezing ass jelly liquid on my knee and rub it around with some electronic thing (the therapist that did on on Friday made me feel OHHHH so comfortable by telling me that she could burn the tissue inside my leg if she stopped moving the thing....by all means keep it moving, I told her!!!) Anyway, that crap is COLD! Then they make me do some stretching exercises, then the stationary bike. And last, they put some more cold shit on my knee called Biofreeze (I think that is what it is called). That crap is cold too, but it feels good at the same time. But it makes me smell like an odd mixture of BenGay and Vicks cough drops. Yeah, it is as nasty as I described. I just plain stink by the time I get out of there. I am sure I won't have to worry about any guys hitting on me after I come out of there. Unless they REALLY like the smell of Vicks. I haven't seen much of an improvement in my poor knee, and I just reaffirmed that feeling a few minutes ago when I attempted to get up out of this chair and felt a sharp, stabbing pain in the front of my knee that caused me to speak some rather bad words. I think I will sit here a few minutes longer before I try that again.

The doctor told me no hiking, long walks or running or anything strenuous for at least a month. That sucks. I want to go camping again in the next few weeks.

Pain sucks ass. Or in my case, pain sucks knees!

Teens accuse each other of haircut rage

DES MOINES, Iowa - Two teenagers are accusing each other of assaulting each other by haircut. An 18-year-old Des Moines East High School student told police Wednesday that another teenager came up behind her with a pair of scissors and began cutting her hair.

The student claimed that when she tried to get the scissors away from her attacker she was cut on her hand and face.

Officers then interviewed the female suspect, also an 18-year-old. She claimed it was the other student who picked up the scissors and began furiously cutting her hair. The suspect was missing "a large quadrant of hair from the front of her head," according to a police report.

Officers are investigating both claims. No charges have been filed. Crime scene investigators were called to take photographs of injuries and haircuts.

MADRID (Reuters) - A Spanish woman staged fake kidnappings of her son four times and got his father to pay her more than a million euros (674,000 pounds) in ransom money, newspaper El Mundo reported on Friday.

Police in the southern Spanish city of Seville arrested the woman and five accomplices, including the 15-year-old son who cooperated in the deception by calling his father on the telephone and begging him to pay up.

The father paid ransoms after the first three fake abductions without realising the involvement of his son's mother, from whom he had separated. He became suspicious the fourth time and hired a private detective, El Mundo reported.

Show the hot dog some respect, man

Well, I went to the doctor today about my lousy knee, and after a few x-rays it was decided that I would go to physical therapy. So I go for my 1st visit tomorrow afternoon. Whoop dee doo. Yeah. I am thrilled. Can't you tell? The x-rays showed that there is some bone loss in my knee. So I guess it is hurting for a reason. Oh, and get this. While I was there, they gave me a tetanus shot. I wasn't there to get a shot, but that is what I got. I went in for knee pain and I left with arm pain. Some trade off. My friggin arm is still sore where they gave me the shot. Painless my ass.

I hope they don't hurt me too much tomorrow. I am such a wuss.

On a completely unrelated note, I heard the stupidest thing ever said the other day on tv. I think it was on MTV, so the fact that it was stupid is not a big surprise. Well this dude was talking about competitive eating. He was going into a hot dog eating contest. And during the interview, he said this...(and I am paraphrasing cuz I don't remember the actual words, probably cuz I was too dumbfounded to think after I heard this)...

"You can die from eating too much. But I am a professional. And I think being a professional is all about not dying."

Yeah. That was a real gem of wisdom there, buddy. If being a professional is all about not dying, then I am a professional driver, a professional breather, and a professional bather. I am a professional "live-er". It's all about not dying after all. And since I am still alive.....well, you get my point.

I am also a professional smart-ass in case you were wondering.

By the way, this genius also said that he "respected the hot dog."

He's a real Einstein, that guy.

Maybe that's why he was on MTV and not CNN.

Mich. woman tries to sell mummy on eBay

PORT HURON, Mich. - Officials are trying to track down the origins of a mummified human skeleton that a Michigan woman tried to sell on eBay.

The St. Clair County medical examiner's office confiscated the mummified remains Tuesday from the home of Lynn Sterling.

Sterling, 45, told police she got the remains from a friend who works in demolition and said he found them in a Detroit school he helped tear down nearly 30 years ago, police said. She said she had contacted an attorney before posting the remains for sale.

"It's an anatomical, medical-use skeleton," Sterling told The Times Herald of Port Huron. "I would never have put it on (eBay) if I thought it was anything other than an anatomical, medical thing."

Sterling likely won't face charges, Port Huron Police Capt. Don Porrett said, though officials said the remains will be sent to an anthropologist at Michigan State University for further examination.

St. Clair County Medical Examiner Daniel Spitz described the remains as an intact skeleton with mummified tissue. He said age, sex and race could not yet be determined, but said the remains appeared to be those of a child.

"It's very, very old. It's probably some type of anatomical dissection that was part of an anatomy class that over time got into the hands of somebody in the general public," Spitz said.

Port Huron police were notified about the eBay posting by a caller from North Carolina who spotted the item on the online auction site, Porrett said.

EBay spokeswoman Catherine England said the posting was removed Wednesday because it violated a policy against selling human remains. The Web site allows the sale of skeletons for medical use, but not mummified remains.

Curiosity did attract at least one bid before the posting was removed.

"There was a bid on it for $500 from `Satan's Child,'" Porrett said.

I still wanna be a Ghost Hunter

A new season of Ghost Hunters started tonight on the Sci-Fi Channel, and I was so stoked to see it, especially after last season's adventure at the Stanley Hotel. Well, this time the guys at TAPS went to Tombstone, AZ to investigate the Birdcage Saloon, and it did not disappoint. All kinds of crazy shtuff happened there....everything from noises to shadows coming out of nowhere to full-bodied apparitions. I SO wanna a Ghost Hunter. And now I wanna go visit Tombstone, AZ! lol. I know I am crazy. You don't need to say it. It has all been said many times before.

I remember when I was a kid and me, my brother and Cyndi all thought the old gas station down on River Drive (there is a Mc Donald's there now) was haunted. We used to go there all the time in hopes of seeing something. We usually ended up scaring each other by saying stuff like "I saw red eyes!!!" Granted, it was probably just a mouse or a cat or some animal. Heck, it could have even been a person. We lived near the river and a lot of homeless people hung out down there. It was just fun to get scared back then. I still think it is fun to get scared. Just as long as no one gets hurt - lol.

Tonight's South Park was hilarious. I have been getting sick and tired of hearing how this whole 9-11 thing was some mass government conspiracy. People get mad at the USA. It is no secret. Some crazy terrorists got on some planes and hijacked them and crashed them into buildings to show us how mad they are at us. It wasn't a conspiracy. People are just plain nuts! I have been saying this for years and years. People are crazy! Just read the headlines. I read the other day that some woman used her baby to hit her boyfriend or husband or whoever. Yes. Used her little baby as a weapon. How demented is that? And that crazy dude who was text messaging sexual messages to underage boys.....I have just one word for that....ewwwwwwwwww! And then I read that some woman killed her son, went to prison, was let out of prison cuz she had terminal cancer, then got mad at her husband and killed him, too. Now she is back in jail awaiting another trial, and she told everyone that if she is let out again, she will kill her other son. CRAZY! I am telling you....crazy. Just like they said tonight in South Park.....1/4 of the people in the world are retarded (not Down's Syndrome retarded, but Carlos Mencia "dee dee dee" retarded - there is a difference).

Anyhow, I am off to bed. I have to go to the doctor tomorrow morning. I finally caved in and made an appointment to see what is wrong with my damned knee. I guess I will find out soon. I just hope it can be fixed without too much pain - lol.

Gravely ill woman kills son, is freed, kills husband

SOFIA (Reuters) - A Bulgarian woman who killed her son was released from prison because of terminal cancer. She then went home and killed her husband, police said Tuesday.

The 57-year-old was sentenced to 15 years in jail for killing her 29-year-old son with a garden hoe in April 2005 while he was sleeping.

Last month, authorities judged her to be in the final stages of cancer and let her go home, where she stabbed her husband in the throat with a knife.

"It was established she was in the last stage of cancer, she had it all over her body," said a spokeswoman for the Bourgas regional police.

"They presumed she was feeling bad and she would treat herself and rest. But nothing of the kind. She got aggressive and ... she killed her husband."

The woman, from a village in eastern Bulgaria, has been taken into custody again and is awaiting a new trial.

"She threatened that, if she is released again, she will kill her second son as well," the police spokeswoman said.

"The whole case is like something from the twilight zone."

Mom accused of swinging baby as weapon

ERIE, Pa. - A woman used her 4-week-old baby as a weapon in a domestic dispute, swinging the infant through the air and striking her boyfriend with the child, authorities said.

The boy was in serious but stable condition Monday at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, police said.

"Never, never, never. I can never remember anything like this," District Attorney Bradley Foulk told the Erie Times-News.

Chytoria Graham, 27, of Erie, was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and simple assault. She was held Monday in the Erie County Jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.

The infant, whose name was not released, suffered a fractured skull and some bleeding in the brain, authorities said. His head hit Graham's boyfriend, the baby's father, police Lt. Dan Spizarny said.

Authorities removed four other children from Graham's home and placed them with the Erie County Office of Children and Youth, Foulk said.

Another weekend has passed. Which means tomorrow begins a new work week, and frankly, that makes me sad - lol. I didn't do anything today but work some on my digital scrapbooking and lounge around the house in my pj's all day. What a day! lol. I want some more pictures of Cyndi and her family (hint hint - hehehehehe) so I can make some more pages. Her kids are just the cutest!

The weather has gotten so nice. It is in the 70's in the daytime and in the 50's at night. I remember why I love fall so much. I love not having to run the A/C all day long. I love being able to wear sweats and slippers in the house at night. I love being able to keep the windows open all day. Why can't it be this way all year long?

I really don't have a whole lot to write about. I haven't been camping in a few weeks. Frankly, I have not had the energy to go camping and my knee hurts too much to go on a long hike. Ugh. The only bad thing about the weather getting cooler is its effect on my bones. Ouch. I was in a lot of pain earlier so I took some Ultracet and now I am nice and pain-free....until tomorrow - lol.

I hope to make another trip to Death Valley or Joshua Tree this fall. It was simply too hot to go earlier in the year, but now that it is October, it should be nice. I really wanna go to Zion National Park sometime too. We'll see. That is a lot of a longer drive than Death Valley or Joshua Tree - lol.

It is 9:30 now, and all I wanna do it crawl into my nice, cumfy bed and relax since I have been at this computer nearly all day long doing this and that. My butt is numb! lol Guess I better go let it de-numb now.

U.S. border agents arrest 83-year-old on drug charged

PHOENIX, Arizona (Reuters) - U.S. police arrested an 83-year-old woman on suspicion of entering California from Mexico with 10 pounds (4.5 kg) of methamphetamine strapped to her body, officials said on Thursday.

The woman, who is a U.S. citizen, and two Mexican nationals were arrested in San Ysidro, California, on Monday as they drove north from Tijuana, Mexico.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman Angelica De Cima said officers at a U.S. border crossing stopped their car and found the drugs strapped to the body of the retiree and a 40-year-old Mexican woman.

Both women were passengers in the vehicle driven by a 22-year-old Mexican man.

"It's very unusual for us to arrest such an elderly smuggler, but it's not unique," De Cima told Reuters by telephone. "We are catching more drugs at the port and so the Mexican cartels are using more creative techniques to try and get away with it."

San Ysidro, located a few miles (km) south of San Diego, is a key transit point used by Mexican drug cartels to smuggle cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine to U.S. markets.

Methamphetamine, a synthetic stimulant, is prepared in so-called "super labs" in Tijuana and shipped north to market in California, where the chemicals used to make it are more strictly controlled.

De Cima said seizures of methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin had jumped by at least 25 percent at the San Ysidro crossing in the last 12 months.

Burning desire to be fireman lands man in jail

SYDNEY (Reuters) - An Australian conman who wanted to be a fireman stopped at traffic accidents to offer help and even stole a fire truck so he could impress his girlfriend with a joyride, a court heard on Friday.

Simon Francis Jobson pleaded guilty to 30 charges including fraud, theft, forgery and impersonating a public official, local media reported.

Judge Michael Forde sentenced Jobson to five years in jail but told the District Court in the Queensland state capital Brisbane that he would be eligible for parole in a year.

The court heard that Jobson had broken into Queensland fire stations, stealing uniforms, radios and safety equipment during a spree lasting from September 2003 until December 2004 -- soon after he had been released from jail on similar offences.

Pretending to be a fireman, he would stop at traffic accidents and offer help, Australian Associated Press reported.

Prosecutors said Jobson had even done a fire inspection on a pub in Queensland's Sunshine Coast holiday strip and made safety suggestions that were acted upon.

He also broke into a Sunshine Coast fire station and stole a fire truck, which he used in a joyride for his girlfriend, who believed he was a fireman.

Jobson's lawyer Tony Entriken said his client wanted psychiatric treatment because he had a "burning desire to overcome his disorder".

Body found in bed 5 years after death

VIENNA (Reuters) - Austrian authorities have discovered the body of a man who apparently died at home in bed five years ago, a Vienna newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The corpse of Franz Riedl, thought to have been in his late 80s when he died, went undetected for so long because his rent had been paid by automatic order from the bank account into which he received his pension, the daily Kurier said.

Neighbors said there was no strange smell coming from Riedl's apartment and authorities who found the body after a court order was given to enter said his body appeared to have "mummified" and was well preserved.

"He had been frail and a woman had helped him," the husband of the apartment block's caretaker told Kurier, adding that mail had always piled up outside the pensioner's flat. "We thought he had moved in with her or gone to an old people's home."

Police said they were not certain as to exactly when the man had died, but that they had found only schilling notes in the apartment -- the currency used by Austria before the introduction of the euro on January 1, 2002.

Student flying with dynamite "souvenir" indicted

HOUSTON (Reuters) - A U.S. tourist who told airport inspectors that dynamite in his bags was a souvenir from South America has been charged with breaking two security laws and could face up to 10 years in prison and steep fines.

A grand jury returned a two-count indictment charging Howard MacFarland Fish, 21, with carrying an explosive on an aircraft and entering an airport in violation of security requirements, U.S. Attorney Don DeGabrielle said in a news release on Wednesday.

Fish, a student at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, was stopped at Houston Intercontinental Airport on August 25 on his way home from Argentina. Customs inspectors found a small stick of dynamite, a fuse and a blasting cap in his bags.

He told investigators he had picked up the items as souvenirs while visiting a silver mine in Argentina.

Carrying an explosive on an aircraft is a felony carrying maximum possible penalties of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 (132,544 pound) fine. Violating airport security is a misdemeanor carrying a maximum year in prison and a $100,000 fine,

No trial date has been set. Fish is free on $75,000 bond.

Irishman wins world oyster opening championship By Kevin Smith

GALWAY (Reuters) - Ireland was the proud winner on Saturday of the 2006 World Oyster Opening Championship, beating off competition from 17 other countries to open 30 oysters in the fastest time.

At 2 minutes 35 seconds, Irish restaurateur Michael Moran was five seconds ahead of Sweden's Hasse Johannesson and 46 seconds faster than Britain's Frederick Lindford.

"It's just great to bring it home for Ireland," said Moran, whose father Willie took the title twice in the 1970s and whose time of 1 minute 31 seconds is unbeaten.

"I put in a big effort and it paid off -- I can't believe it," Moran, 23, told Reuters.

The secret, he said, was a steady hand with the oyster knife.

"It has to be a smooth movement or you risk crunching the shell and then you get points taken off for grit," he said.

It was the first win for Ireland in 10 years but the country's 15th overall in the four-decade history of the competition, which has long been a major feature of the Galway Oyster Festival, now in its 52nd year.

"He was a bold man that first ate an oyster," observed 18th century Irish writer Jonathan Swift, and by that measure there were a lot of bold men -- and women -- gathered in the medieval "City of the Tribes" on Ireland's rugged west coast on Saturday.

"We reckon there are around 12,000 people here this year and they'll scoff somewhere in the region of 100,000 oysters in the four days of the festival," said organizer John Rabbitt.

The festival draws visitors from around the world, as much for the Irish "craic" -- dancing and drinking -- as for the oysters, which mollusk aficionados say derive a distinctive sweetness from Ireland's Atlantic waters.

"I've had more oysters than I've eaten in my life," said first-time British visitor Michael Codrington.

"At least 50 -- all washed down with a lot of Guinness."

The festival, dreamt up by a Galway hotelier to mark the start of the oyster season -- and drum up post-summer business -- has seen its share of famous visitors over the years.

In 1960, U.S. film director John Huston dropped by and in 1993 comedian Bob Hope delighted the crowd with a rendition of "Thanks for the Memories" in the city's main square.

This year the event is expected to generate around 7 million euros ($8.87 million) for the local economy.

What's this? An actual blog entry? Are you kidding?

Can it be? An actual blog entry? I know it has been a while since I last "blogged." Now that they keep me busy at work, I have had no actual time to blog. Let's face it. By the time I get home from work, my brain has had enough of thinking. Thus the blog slack-off.

I am lazy. This is a known fact.

It seems like we went from summer straight to winter in just a few days. Just last week, it was still in the 90's and today, it was cold all day long...and rainy. The colder weather is a big break for the firefighters tackling that once-monster fire that has plagued Southern California for nearly a month. Gosh. One day I got off of work and the sky was orange and brown with smoke from the fire. I thought there was a fire here in town, but it was the smoke from the Day Fire, which started near Ojai nearly a month ago and has since burned over 162,000 acres (it was started by someone who was burning trash, and the fire got out of control). It came really close to Lake of The Woods and Frazier Park, which is near where I used to live. Pretty scary. The fire is now over 90% contained, so let's hope it gets put out really soon.

The break in the heat is a welcome relief to me, but I wasn't quite ready for the rain. Damn my bones ache. I hate the rainy season for that reason.

We had our 2nd annual Department All Staff at the Rabobank Arena on Friday. It was an all-day event. It went pretty well. I really liked the guest speakers (Antwone Fisher and Josh Shipp), and my 2 workshops were pretty good. I would have liked the whole event even more had I not had a bad headache that day. There is always SOMETHING that ruins a good day. Grrrr. And, once again, I was shut out of the raffle prizes, although Veronica did win something (you go girl!). When you have like 10-15 prizes for some 1500 people, that is pretty damned good.

Time for bed! I can't wait til Friday when I am off and can sleep in again.

I love sleeping in. I wish I could do it everyday.

Man allegedly tells police he stole pot

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A man who police say was caught with two pounds of marijuana allegedly told officers the drug wasn't his because he stole it.

Bradley Robison, 18, of Cedar Rapids, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and failure to affix a drug tax stamp.

When police found him with the marijuana, he said he had stolen it from a nearby business that he had just broken into, court records show.

Linn County Attorney Harold Denton said it doesn't matter how Robison got the marijuana — only that he had it.

"If you steal it, you steal it and you possess it," Denton said. "It's a double whammy."

Robison was caught by officers after they saw him running from the area early Tuesday, police said.

A burglary charge was being considered but had not been immediately filed.

The investigation also led to a possession with intent to deliver charge being filed against Ruban Rivas, 36, for allegedly having the marijuana at the business that Robison broke into, court records show.

Both men were taken to jail but later released.
