Lazy Day

I have been lazy all day long, and it feels good! lol. After all these weekends of going places, it feels good to just be lazy today. My mom called today and they got reservations in Vegas for my vacation, and we are gonna go down to The Grand Canyon, too. I can't wait!

I am watching MXC on Spike Tv right now. I have never seen this one before. It is a "CSI" edition of MXC. This could not be better. 2 of my favorite shows mixed into one. Oh glorious day - lol!

Since I am being so lazy, I am not gonna write a long old post. Instead, I am gonna post a poem...one of my favorites from my childhood. Enjoy!

Where the Sidewalk Ends

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

(Sorry, but we are not here right now. If you are contemplating
suicide, please wait until 9 am...thank you for your cooperation"

Canada suicide hotline to open only from 9 to 5

TORONTO (Reuters) - A Canadian province will shut its 24-hour suicide hotline and replace it with one that operates only during business hours.

Prince Edward Island, a small province on Canada's East Coast, says it is too expensive to operate the hotline around the clock. Starting June 1, it will be open only between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The plan drew protest from mental health groups across the country on Wednesday.

"How many times, when you get upset or worried or concerned about things, is it in the middle of the day? It's usually at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning when you wake up," said Joan Wright, executive director of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention based in Edmonton, Alberta.

The hotline received about 1,400 calls a year and about 50 were from people contemplating suicide, health groups said.

"One of the things I was hearing is the government felt there weren't enough suicide-related calls," Wright said.

Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest province with a population of about 137,000 people, is trying to tame its budget deficit. The hotline cost about C$30,000 ($24,000) a year to run.

"It's a very small amount of money in our view," said Reid Burke, executive director of the Canadian Mental Health Association.

"(Given) the economic cost of a suicide, if governments pay attention to dollars and numbers, not what happens to people, it just doesn't make sense."

Flat tires suck!

Ok, so maybe it doesn't qualify as road rage, exactly. But when I got off from work, all happy that I was getting off early, I got out to my car only to find that the right front tire was completely flat. Upon closer inspection, I saw that there was a screw stuck in the side of the tire. UGH! What a way to start out the weekend. Luckily, since I am such a nerd, I keep an air compressor in the trunk, so I was able to inflate the tire so that it was driveable. It was so hot outside that I wasn't about to fool around with putting the spare on (not that I can do it anyway - lol - plus, I tried calling my folks and no one was home - lol). I drove to the Chevy dealer, but the guy told me they don't fix flats there. UGH! So I drove to this place my parents always go to when they need a flat fixed or their tires rotated, etc. Of course, the flat wasn't fixable (something about the screw being embedded in the sidewall or something), so I had to pay for a new tire. Of course, he didn't have the tires I have on my car in stock (those were like $87), but he had another one and he charged me $55 for it, which wasn't too bad I thought. On the plus side, the guy told me that I was purty (LOL! maybe he wanted a tip - lol). Sometimes I feel like the force is against me. I mean, I have had my car since 2001 with no flats til this year...this is the 2nd one I had this year. Oh well. At least it got fixed and I can drive it again. If nothing else, I learned that keeping an air compressor in your trunk is a good idea (even if it does seem like a slightly pessimistic thing to do - lol)

Stupidity is all around us

I read this in an email I got. I don't know if this is true or not, but I would be shocked if it hasn't happened ! Just goes to show you how much faith I have in people's stupidity - hehe

"Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets. I asked for a half dozen nuggets. "We don't have half dozen nuggets," said the teenager at the counter. "You don't?" I replied. "We only have six, nine, or twelve,"
was the reply. "So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?" "That's right." So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets."

Police: Taxi Robber Shoots Himself in Foot

ROSWELL, Ga. - Police say an 18-year-old who robbed a taxi driver shot himself in the foot — literally.

Rodriquez Lamar Massett of Atlanta pulled a handgun after an Acapulco Taxi cab picked him up and drove him to a McDonald's restaurant, Roswell Police Sgt. James McGee said. The suspect took $74 and fled on foot but was spotted by police.

"While the suspect was running, the weapon discharged, striking the suspect in the foot," McGee said.

Massett was transported to North Fulton Regional Hospital with a minor injury, he said.

I am Jack's smirking revenge...

I just got back from the doctor, so I got off from work early :) My doctor's appointment was not too bad. I found out that the last SED rate test I had was down to 37. That is a test to see how much inflammation is present in your body. Normal is around 20. 37 is great for me, since from the time I had been seeing the doctor, it had been at 50 and upwards. This is the lowest I have been. I know it is not much to anyone who doesn't have inflammatory arthritis, but it is something to me - lol. Also, I had the experienced nurse taking my blood this time, so no bruising.

On the way home from the doctor, I got onto the freeway to go home, since it is quicker. I was driving along, singing to the radio when this ass munch in a white pickup veers into my lane. He almost hit me. I had to swerve to avoid getting hit, and in the process, nearly hit the car in the lane next to me. I laid on the horn, to no avail. Mr Ass Munch just proceeded to get into my lane, no matter if I was there or not, and kept driving. I was so pissed! I am secretly plotting revenge against Mr Ass Munch. I will get him back...someday. So watch your ass mister pickup driver.

Ok, so now I am relaxed and not boiling with road rage anymore. I stopped by Sonic and got a Cherry Dr Pepper, my favorite drink in the universe. All is well with the world again.

Thai anti-corruption commission corrupt

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand's nine anti-corruption commissioners were found guilty on Thursday of awarding themselves extra payments illegally, a court said.

A panel of nine Supreme Court judges voted six to three to uphold an earlier finding against the nine commissioners of the National Counter Corruption Commission (NCCC), the country's top anti-graft watchdog.

"They were guilty of misusing their authority to benefit their own interest, which has caused damage to the National Counter Corruption Commission," a judge said in reading the hour-long verdict.

However, the court suspended their two-year jail terms, saying their convictions should not overshadow the good work they had done in the past.

The commissioners were found guilty of boosting their monthly allowances by 42,500-45,500 baht (580-621 pounds) without parliamentary approval.

It was not clear if the commissioners, who had denied the charges, would lose their jobs.

"I won't resign since this verdict won't disqualify me," NCCC commissioner Vichien Viriyaprasit told reporters after the court ruling.

And the American Idol is....

... Carrie! Wow! I am surprised. I figured with all the girls out there voting, Bo was sure to win ... of course, I like Carrie's voice better, but then, Bo is just so sexy! lol. I woulda voted for Carrie had I actually voted. I am really glad she won. She is just super nice and has a great personality ... and her voice is flawless. You go girl! Finally, American Idol voters got it right and the 3 people who were in the top 3 actually deserved to be there. Thank goodness Scott didn't make it into the top 3. Had he made it, I would have lost faith in the show. Thank goodness there was some real quality in the show this year. I can't wait to see what next season's competition will be like.

News and Stuff

Well it is Wednesday... just about over the "hump". It is going to be another 3-day weekend for us, and next week too. All these 3-day weekends are gonna spoil me!

I have to go back to the rheumatologist tomorrow. Oh what fun. I hope this time they don't have a new person taking my blood. That last woman gave me a bruise that lasted for a week!

I heard that they are filing criminal charges against that "runaway bride," Jennifer Wilbanks for the trouble she caused by lying to the police about being kidnapped. I say GOOD! She deserves it for putting her family through that misery of not knowing where she was, especially with all of these kidnappings and murders that happen all of the time. Can you imagine how her family, friends and her fiance must have felt? And then to lie to the police about being kidnapped? There are enough REAL kidnappings happening for the police to deal with. Just because you get cold feet doesn't give you license to lie about something like that. Just suck it up and tell the truth!

The American Idol finale is tonight. After seeing the competition last night, I think it is going to be VERY close. I think Bo will win, because he has a good stage presence and is likeable and has a good, strong voice. Carrie is certainly great, too. She lacks the stage presence that Bo has, though, but ver voice is awesome! I don't know. It is going to be a close call.

It is supposed to be 97 degrees here today. It is currently 95 outside. While I can't wait to go home and relax (and maybe clean my room - lol), I certainly CAN wait to go outside. UGH! At least it is supposed to go back into the 80s next week. I hate summers in B-Town. They are just too darned hot. My car is going to be SO hot when I get outside.

5:00 ... almost time to go home!

My "Un-Goals"

Many people make New Year's resolutions...you know...where they resolve to lose weight, write a novel, be nicer, etc. Well I don't do those anymore. First of all, they don't work. Making goals is an easy thing to do...Sticking to those goals, however, is not. So, I decided to make up myself a list of "un-goals," or things that I don't want to or need to accomplish in my lifetime. Call this the lazy person's list...

My Un-Goals

I don't want to....

1) Go to jail.
2) Live to be 120 years old.
3) Marry a prison inmate.
4) See Oprah live.
5) Be a guest on the Jerry Springer Show.
6) Audition for American Idol.
7) Be a millionaire.
8) Go bungee jumping.
9) Go streaking through Times Square.
10) Go cliff diving.
11) Date Brad Pitt.
12) Run for political office.
13) Learn to swallow swords.
14) Be in the Guiness Book of World Records.
15) Be on any reality tv shows.
16) Be a porn star.
17) Meet Paris Hilton.
18) Ride with the Hell's Angels.
19) Sell my soul to the devil.
20) Become a nun.

There... that is a list I think I can stick to - hehe.

(Pizza man won't deliver? Call 911.)

Woman Calls 911 With Pizza Complaint

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - An 86-year-old woman was jailed after police said she called 911 dispatchers 20 times in a little more than a half-hour — all to complain that a pizza parlor wouldn't deliver.

Dorothy Densmore was charged with misusing the 911 system, a jail spokeswoman said.

She told dispatchers Sunday that a local pizza shop refused to deliver a pie to her south Charlotte apartment, said Officer Mandy Giannini. She also complained that someone at the shop called her a "crazy old coot," Giannini said.

Densmore wanted them arrested. Instead, police came to arrest her, and she resisted, Giannini said.

It's unusual for someone to face charges for nonemergency calls, Giannini said. But on Sunday, Densmore kept calling 911, even after she was told to stop, Giannini said.

When an officer arrived at her apartment, the 5-foot-tall, 98-pound woman attacked him, Giannini said. Densmore scratched him, kicked and bit his hand, she said.

Densmore also is charged with resisting a public officer and two counts of misusing the 911 system, jail records show.

Oh Itchy Day

Well, I am back in the city after spending the weekend in Yosemite. How sad. I had such a great time that it just seems wrong to be cooped up in an office. On the down side, I got bit by bugs or got into something that caused this rash on my upper right leg and oh man does it itch! They say if you just don't think about it that it won't bother you....ha! That is a load of BS. It started with one little spot on my leg that started itching as we were leaving Yosemite, and since then, it has spread. Calomine, take me away!

I decided to take a week of vacation in late June. I was at my folks' house yesterday and my brother suggested we go to the Grand Canyon (YESSS!!!!). That is a destination on my "Want to See" list. I can't wait!

My brother's house is almost complete. He said they close on this Friday and he already got some furniture to put in there. I can tell he is excited about moving in. The house really looks nice.

Alicia is still pregnant...lol. I keep expecting any day to hear some baby news, but Alana has not made her appearance into the world just yet. She must be all cumfy and cozy in there and doesn't want to come out!

A friend at work brought me a bag of cherries and I have been eating them all day long. Boy are they good! But if I keep eating them, I am bound to get sick. But oh what a good way to get sick ... lol.

Tomorrow is Wednesday....Hump Day...yippee. Tonite is American Idol night. Will it be Bo or Carrie...only time will tell. I have a feeling it will be Bo that wins it though. We shall see.

Woman Arrested for Having Crowded Car

NEWHALL, Calif. - A woman was arrested after the California Highway Patrol officer who pulled her car over found nine people crammed inside, including two children in the trunk.

"I have never heard of this," said Officer Wendy Hahn. "There was no room left in the car, so she puts two of the kids in the trunk. We're trying to get people to buckle up, and this is what we find."

Lavern Dunlap, 35, of Glendora, was pulled over about 8 p.m. Friday after another driver reported seeing a woman closing the trunk of her Toyota Corolla with two children inside as the vehicle sat parked on a shoulder.

Dunlap told the officer she was heading to her sister's house in Palmdale, about a 60-mile trip.
The officer discovered a 15-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl in the trunk, four children in the back seat, an adult in the front passenger seat with a child on her lap and Dunlap behind the wheel. No one was wearing a seat belt, she said.

Dunlap was booked on suspicion of child cruelty and was released. She is scheduled to appear next month in court.

Funny Stuff From George Carlin

"I have a suggestion that I think would help fight some serious crime. Signs. There are lots of signs for minor infractions: NO SMOKING, STAY OFF THE GRASS, KEEP OUT, and they seem to work fairly well. I think we should also have signs for major crimes: MURDER STRICTLY PROHIBITED, THANK YOU FOR NOT KIDNAPPING ANYONE. It's certainly worth a try. I'm convinced that Watergate would never have happened if there had just been a sign in the Oval Office that said, MALFEASANCE OF OFFICE IS STRICTLY AGAINST THE LAW, or THANK YOU FOR NOT UNDERMINING THE CONSTITUTION."

(Babies everywhere beware...
talcum powder sniffing dogs are out there!)

Drug Dogs Trained to Find Talcum Powder

CANBERRA, Australia - When police sniffer dogs couldn't trace drugs, the Australian state police force soon discovered the reason: the cocaine sample used to train them was talcum powder. Seven dogs that had worked on drug searches over the past three months will need to be retrained, Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Paul Evans said Friday.

"I'm sure our dogs have got very soft, nice smelling noses at the moment, but they are in fact trained in detecting talcum powder so that means that they will have to be retrained in detecting cocaine," he told reporters.

"If there are any missing kids out there, we'd find them fairly quickly, I should think," he quipped.

Evans said police did not believe cocaine had been stolen and blamed an administrative error for the mix-up.

But internal investigations had been launched both within Victoria police and the Australian Federal Police which supplies illicit drug samples to the state force for training purposes.

The state opposition described the case as either corruption or incompetence and called for a public inquiry into the state force.

Yosemite National Park trip

Yep...took another weekend trip to the woods. This time, Chris and I headed out to Yosemite National Park. He was able to make reservations at Curry Village, right there in Yosemite Valley. It was the weekend before Memorial Day weekend, so I didn't anticipate it being too busy. Boy was I wrong! The place was packed ! We had to wait to get into the park in a long line of cars. It must have been at least a 30 minute wait just to get in the park. But that 30 minutes seemed like 30 hours, because I had to pee SO bad. I am talking emergency status here! Luckily, there was a restroom right there at the park entrance, so I was saved from the potential embarassment of "pee pants." Whew! The road to Mariposa Grove was blocked because the parking lot was full up there. They were basically letting in one car everytime one car left the grove. We decided to head on down to camp to get a parking spot and get our stuff set up and maybe check out Mariposa Grove on the way out.

We did stop at Bridalveil Falls on the way down to the valley. Boy, the river was roaring and the falls were pounding down, spraying mist everywhere. You could get good and soaked if you stood there for too long. It is one of the landmarks of the valley, and it is a waterfall that flows year-round, unlike some of the others, which dry up in the summer and freeze up in the winter. This time of the year is the best for viewing waterfalls. They were everywhere you looked!

The next snag in the trip came down at the entrance to Yosemite Valley...another traffic jam. This time, the wait to get in was like 40 minutes. At one point, we heard that they closed the valley, but that was just gossip. You know how fast gossip travels. We finally got in and checked in and got our stuff situated. It was a pretty nice place. They had cots inside the "tent cabins" with bed linens and pillows and towels for the shower house. The bathrooms were within a few feet from us, as were the food lockers (you can't keep any food or any "scented" items, such as lotions, soaps, etc inside the tent due to bears). There was an ampitheater for evening discussions and presentations, a dining hall, pizza place, bar (for those beer drinkers - hehe), gift shop/market, and a taqueria, and ice cream place. It was really nice, and had just enough rusticness to it to make you feel like you were really camping out and not just staying in a motel. Plus they have a shuttle to take you around to various spots in the valley, and bike rentals , too.

We hit up the shuttle and went to Yosemite Falls first. It was beautiful! The falls were really roaring due to all the melting snow and all the rain we have had this year. Standing at the base of the falls, we got really wet. If you stood out on the bridge, you would get soaked. We didn't do that. It was pretty chilly already without getting wet...although, if it had been a really hot day, that would have felt great! The falls are huge! Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in North America, and 5th tallest in the world. It is a breathtaking sight. It really is.

We didn't get to do a lot of hiking or go on many trails cuz Chris's back was hurting him. I felt so bad for him, but he didn't want me to miss out on anything, so he grinned and beared it the best he could. But I still felt bad for him. I know how much he likes to hike and camp out. I want to go back in the summer when Tioga Road is open. I want to see what it looks like from 10,000 some-odd feet up! But the road was closed due to snow, and then after they clear the snow, they have to repair the road and all, so it probably won't be til mid-summer when it is open.

Today, on the way back, we took a lot of pit-stops at meadows along the way out of the valley to stop and take pictures and to look up at El Capitan and see the rock climbers. Boy, they were up far! I would never be so brave to do that....ever! lol. I prefer to keep my feet on the ground. We also took the road a little farther down toward Merced to look at another waterfall that was flowing. I have never seen so may waterfalls in one place in my life.

After this trip, I definitely want to go back again. I would love to see it in the winter when it is full of snow. I bet that would be beautiful. Maybe I should invest in some snow chains - lol.

I love weekend trips!

Man, 90, Crashes Car at Funeral Procession

BIRDSBORO, Pa. - A car in a funeral procession entering a cemetery in Exeter Township, Berks County, careened out of control and struck a minivan in the procession, and nine people were injured in the crash, police said.

Howard L. Luckenbill, 90, the driver of the car; his wife, Laura Luckenbill, 91; and six people who were in the van were taken to Reading Hospital with unspecified injuries, police said. A 13-year-old boy in the van was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital with head injuries, officials said.

Lisa O'Hara, 37, a family service counselor in a nearby office, said she saw Luckenbill's car collide with the van and ran to help. "He (Luckenbill) said, 'I bought new shoes for the funeral and I thought I was hitting the brake, but I was hitting the gas,' " O'Hara said.
